Having spots on your body is endearing when you’re a Dalmatian or spotted leopard, but when you’re human, they can be a bit more worrisome. As one of the strongest indications of sun damage, brown spots can appear on your hands, arms, and face. Even though brown spots aren’t necessarily harmful if left untreated, they may make you feel a bit self-conscious. Luckily, here at Keamy Eye & Laser Centre, we can remove your brown spots so that you have the clear complexion that you did in your teens and twenties. Read on to learn more.
How Are Brown Spots Removed?
The most efficient way that we at Keamy Eye & Laser Centre have found to get rid of brown spots is with laser treatments. By using pulsing energy lasers, Dr. Keamy will be able to target the pigment in your brown spots— breaking it up and getting rid of them in the process.
What Is the Treatment Like?
As a non-invasive treatment, laser treatment for brown spots lasts about 15 minutes per session on average. Depending on the location and size of your brown spots, you may have to undergo about two to three sessions. The great news about laser removal is that because it’s non-invasive, you won’t have to worry about anesthesia or painkillers. Although you may feel a slight stinging sensation during the treatment, the pain is manageable. Because your skin will be more sensitive after you get laser treatment done, we encourage all of our patients to avoid any sun exposure for at least six weeks afterward.
What Are the Side-Effects?
The side-effects of brown spot laser removal include hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) and hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin). By avoiding the sun for six weeks after laser removal, however, you can reduce the likelihood that you will suffer from either of these issues.
