What is Juvéderm?

Juvederm is a safe, FDA-approved formula that lasts up to one year. It contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to minimize the mild discomfort that is sometimes associated with receiving an injection. The injection of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds volume and hydration, is administered directly to targeted areas to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds while also smoothing the skin. It is an effective technique for restoring a youthful plumpness to the skin.

The Juvederm Family®

Juvederm VOLUMA XC

It adds volume and lift to cheeks, creating well-defined cheekbones, and liquid lift to the face. Dr. Keamy may call it “age-related mid-face volume loss,” but you simply know it as sagging cheeks. Over time, as you lose the collagen to support your skin and as your underlying muscles weaken, your cheeks flatten. Juvéderm Voluma® XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface to lift and contour the cheek area. Plump cheeks are a tenet of a younger look. It can now be used to provide chin augmentation and lower face rejuvenation. It also can last up to 24 months.

Juvederm Vollure XC

Juvéderm Vollure® XC is the newest addition to the Juvéderm family of dermal fillers. Vollure is designed for the correction of moderate to deep creases and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds running from the nose down to the corners of the mouth, and parentheses lines framing the mouth.

Juvederm Vobella XC

Juvéderm Volbella® XC enhances the lips and surrounding area by plumping, defining, and addressing the “lipstick lines” around the upper lip. FDA-approved for adding volume to the lips, Juvéderm Volbella® XC takes a more subtle approach compared to Juvéderm Ultra. While Ultra is designed to visibly plump the lips and add noticeable volume, Volbella provides a more discreet enhancement. It subtly increases volume and smooths the vertical lines that often develop with age, delivering a natural-looking result.

Juvederm Ultra XC

Juvéderm® Ultra XC is designed to fill fine lines and wrinkles in areas such as the lips and nasolabial folds. While many people may not immediately notice volume loss in their lips, the thinning of the lips is a natural part of the aging process, as they lose the same structural support as the skin. Additionally, some individuals may have never been satisfied with the fullness of their lips. Juvéderm® Ultra XC helps restore volume and smooths the vertical lines that form around the lips. This was the first dermal filler specifically created for lip enhancement.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC is used to address deeper lines and wrinkles, providing a more dramatic result. Similar to Ultra, it adds volume to the lips and areas around the mouth, but Ultra Plus features larger molecules, making it thicker and slightly longer-lasting. This makes Ultra Plus particularly effective for treating severe wrinkles and folds, as well as for achieving more significant lip volume enhancement. Both Ultra and Ultra Plus deliver noticeable volume increases, with Ultra Plus offering a more substantial effect.

JUVÉDERM® FAQs

Juvéderm® XC was the original dermal filler, along with Restylane® (you can get more information on our Restylane® offerings at Keamy here). They were first approved by the FDA for use in the United States in 2006. Originally, both lines had only the signature single filler. Over the years, each line has been expanded to target certain areas of the face.

For instance, Juvéderm Voluma® XC is specifically meant to be used on flattened, sagging cheeks or chin. Ultra XC was meant to provide noticeable volume to the lips. Volbella XC came later, meant for adding subtle volume to the lips.

Each of the Juvéderm® fillers we offer at Keamy Eye & Laser Centre has areas of the face where it works the best.
