It may have been cool when you were young to try things like twisting your tongue or going cross-eyed, but as you get older, you slowly realize that unless you have control over these things, it’s far from cool. As a condition that occurs mostly in young children, strabismus or crossed eyes, can cause one or both of your eyes to look inward— leaving you with the inability to look straightforward. Here at Keamy Eye and Laser Centre, we work to help treat all kinds of eye conditions including strabismus. And, as one of the latest ways that we like to treat strabismus, we have our patients consider getting Botox. Read on to learn more.

It may sound bizarre to think that Botox can help fix strabismus. As an injection that is commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, Botox can use to treat a variety of medical conditions including strabismus. By relaxing the muscles in the eye, Botox works to temporarily correct crossed eyes. Patients who get Botox injections will notice results just 24-48 hours after treatment and will notice full results around two weeks afterward.

How Is It Conducted?

By first numbing the eye with some numbing eye drops, one of our eye doctors at Keamy Eye and Laser Centre will then inject the Botox directly into your eye. Once the needle is assumed to be in the correct position, the patient will then be asked to blink, and a small amount of Botox will be injected into the eye.

If your child is being treated for strabismus, they will likely be placed under anesthesia so that they are more calm, relaxed, and so that they remain still during the entire procedure.

Strabismus is an eye condition that can cause both children and adults frustration and a lack of confidence. Luckily, with the help of Botox and the eye doctors at Keamy Eye and Laser Centre, you can temporarily correct this problem and restore your eye muscles.
